description TIn this project a biofilter fixed bed is constructed based on marine exoskeletons (scales) finely pulverized. The main characteristic of the flake, is containing an active substance called chitin, on the walls of the structure, which accor ding to the literature report, is used as adsorbent material inter-exchange ion. The built biofilter’s main purpose is to remove pigments, whether they Dri inorganic-organic or synthetic effluent dissolved mechanics. The procedure involved different phases, which include: drying, spray; washing the fish scales; making the filter bed, mounting units and effluent treatment. The results obtained in the treatment of effluent with dissolved pigments based chemical compounds or organic samples and past pigments gravity constructed through the biofilter, is that as the pigments are adsorbed, the clarified effluent increasingly gest crearer each time. This situation is efficient, due to by the fact that the flakes are not soluble in sn aqueous medium. In this vein, the built biofilters were able to remove inorganic pigments simple treatment units, while less proved effective in removing organic pigments of animal origin; for which the use of various treatment units in series is needed; as it could be verified in laboratory tests.
